Is it really worth buying the new iPhone 3G ?
In my personal opinion, it depends on your needs
Why it would be worth buying the iPhone 3G
- it’s an iPod, a phone, a GPS and a 2 MP camera !
- It fills in the needs for those neccessities all in one, really handy if your on the move ! - It features Safari, the best mobile browser out there!

- Easily sync your iPhone 3G with your PC or MAC using iTunes
- Touch Screen!
- - Easily resize your photos by simply pinching the picture on the screen to shrink the picture or spread ur fingers away to enlarge it. – Rotate/Flip your pictures by simply grabbing the tips of each end and rotating them the way you want.
- Easily browse throught Music or Photo albums just the same way you’d flick through the yellow pages!
- Navigation – a breeze! just use your finger tips as if it were a mouse on your PC or notebook, but without having to drag a mouse around ! just tap at the place you want and vola!
Why it wouldn’t be worth buying the iPhone 3G
- No Video recording feature – a simple feature available in most lower-end of the market phones have this feature but the ‘iPhone 3G’ lacks it, but think about it realisticly, how often do you use your phone to capture video?
- No Voice Dial/Voice recording – do we really use that here in New Zealand? I seen people in other countries but yet it is a basic feature which the iPhone 3G lacks.
- No Video calling/confrencing ! – a BIG draw back in the iPhone 3G, most cheap 3G phones have this feature and yet the iPhone 3G fails to deliver this feature.
- Battery is fixed. i.e. non-replaceable, what happens if your battery stuffs up? … send it to apple to get fixed.. which is why i would say getting 3yr + warranty with your iPhone 3G would be a sensible idea.
- No copy/paste feature, if your reading an email and wish to copy certain text, the simplest of functions iPhone 3G does NOT support it.
- No exandable memory, your only given an option of either an 8GB and a 16Gb (but truthfully does any really listen to 16GB of music?)
- No bluetooth streaming audio – ‘apparently’, this is not confirmed as yet though if the iPhone 3G does lack this feature it would be a major set back for people who would want to use stereo bluetooth headsets to listen to their iPod
On the whole, the ‘iPhone 3G‘ is an awesome phone in terms of it being user-friendly, fashionable, modern, and ofcourse a multi-tasking device that provides you with the capabilities of a phone, a GPS navigation system, an iPod (music player), a camera, email, calendar, synchronisation and more importantly the capability of using 3G (3rd Generation) networking as well as Wi-Fi. Although it lacks very simplistic features that any common man would expect in his or her phone, those features aren’t very significant in my perspective. For example, how often do you REALLY use a Video Camer on the phone? Video Confrencing(calling), only really useful if your BestMates with someone.
Final Verdict
If you have the money – BUY IT !
Vodafone (99%) is only making it available on a fixed term contract, but who ever said parallel imported is not supplying them?
