Just a little checklist that I recommend to follow before you buy the iPhone 3G|S|
First of all – make sure you can afford it.
- If you have been on Vodafone for a long time, there are chances that you have a ‘SIM’ version of the sim card and not a ‘SIM2′. The major differences are storage capacity and 3G compatibility. Now, you can use the iPhone 3G|S| with a ‘SIM’ version, but no 3G features would be available to you. As far as I know it’s $30 to get change your sim card at any VF retailer, it’ll take 20mins max. To check this – take your sim card out and look for either ‘SIM2′ or ‘3G’ written somewhere on it.
- Don’t be in a rush, as much as the excitement is there, sometimes its better to wait a few days. I might be getting it this Saturday (11th July) or might wait until VF retail stores have it as I do not want to receive an iPhone that is faulty via mail and wait 3 weeks until it is fixed. For those of you who aren’t aware, any product from Apple needs to be sent to Apple to get fixed/repaired/replaced, it is not in Vodafone NZ’s hands and hence if you order it online and it is faulty, you would have to send it to Apple and wait 2-3 weeks before you get it back – hence I say if you aren’t sure, wait for it to come in the stores and ask the guy to open it in front of you so you can check for any problems and replace it straight away.
- Known Issues

- Yellow Tint – Some.. about 1.5% of iPhone 3G|S| customers have been complaining about a yello ’tint’ on the screen, no word from Apple about it (yet) although they do tend to make the screens a tad ‘warmer’ that its predecessors.
Here is the Apple forum discussion – Yellow Tint - Overheating – Again, some users have been complaining that the 3.0 software update with the iPhone 3G|S| causes the phone to heat up a bit and place a warning on the screen to shut the phone off for a while and let it cool. Commonly seen with GPS apps.
- Poor battery life – some users compalin that push, 3G and WiFi drain their iPhone 3GS’ battery life and turning them off boosts’ it. Whereas apple said iPhone 3G|S| has a better battery life?
*NOTE* – only a mere percent of iPhone 3G|S| customers have faced these issues, don’t be put off buy them! and also 3.0 OS is known to be buggy 0 OS 3.1 is in BETA, should be available soon!

- Protective case. Not a necessity, but come on you don’t want even a tiny scratch on it, do you?!
- When you guy buy the iPhone from a store, keep in mind that those guys are gonna have to face atleast 3000 customers in 1 day, the nicer you are to them the better that sale your going to get.
